Xuan Huong Lake

You can try a cup of coffee and enjoy the fresh air. Or people can travel by swan boat to discover the beauty of Xuan Huong. 1^st hypothesis

This lake is called “Ho Xuan Huong” because it had an aroma of the grass when spring came.

2^nd hypothesis:

The lake has been named Ho Xuan Huong since 1953 because people wanted the romantic image of famous Vietnamese poet of the 19 century to live endlessly, who named is Ho Xuan Huong.

Xuan Huong lake was a valley with Cam Ly waterfall flown through. Water of the lake came from Cam Ly. Lach people were the first presidents of this place. In 1919, from Cunhac minister’s idea, civil engineer Labbe took steps to prevent the stream from forming a lake. In 1923, former government built an additional dam below to create a two small lake. In March 1932, the dam was destroyed by a huge storm. In 1934 – 1935, Tran Dang Khoa engineer designed and built an alternative stone dam, which is called Ong Dao bridge. The French named it Grand Lac (Large Lake).

The Dam is situated before Quan Dao palace, which is the home of Pham Khac Hoe. The local people called him as “Ong Dao”, so after finishing the dam, they named it as “Ong Dao Bridge”. In 1953, Nguyen Vy was the reeve of this town, who changed the name from Grand Lac to Xuan Huong lake. Many years later, Xuan Huong lake is the reflected mirror of Dalat city.
